Extranet

 An extranet is the extension of a company's information system to encompass partners outside of the network.
Extranet access must be secure in the sense that it offers access to an information system to persons outside the company. This can either take the form of simple identification (username and password) or advanced identification (by means of a certificate).

An extranet is therefore different from an intranet, or internet site. It is a supplementary system offering the clients partners or branches of a company privileged access to certain information resources of the company using a web interface
